Fremont Homeless Navigation Center

Workshops: Wednesday, Aug 15 and Saturday, Aug 24 The City of Fremont has declared a "Shelter Crisis" because the number of homeless persons in our city is growing. Our homeless population has increased 27% since 2017. As one of the strategies to help solve this growing homeless crisis the city is working to locate a Housing Navigation Center in the City.

A Fremont Housing Navigation Center, which will be operated by Bay Area Community Services (BACs), will provide a clean, safe, calm and flexible environment that allows homeless persons to rebuild their lives and intensely focus on finding stable permanent housing. The center is modeled after the City of Berkeley's successful Housing Navigation (STAIR) Center, also perated by BACs. The program as an 82% success rate in placing homeless participants into permanent, sustainable housing. The Fremont Navigation Center will provide outreach services, up to six months of housing for 45 homeless adults (From Fremont and the Tri-Cities), one meal a day is provided in addition to a communal kitchenette, storage for personal belongings, 24/7 onsite staff, hygiene services (toilets, showers, and laundry), health and wellness services, employment/benefit assistance, substance abuse services, intensive case management and Housing Navigation Service.

Members of faith communities who work to serve the most vulnerable in our community and who may already be familiar with the many needs of the homeless population, are invited to participate in an upcoming workshop on the Navigation Center, and share your experiences in serving the homeless population. Two workshops will be held, as follows: Wednesday, August 14 from 5:30-8:30pm and Saturday, August 24 from 10am-1pm at Harbor Light Church, 4760 Thornton Ave. Check out our website www.fremont.gov/navigationcenter
